Subject: Meeting up with old folks in Toronto
Dear friends,
I had a great time in my US and Canadian trips. There wasn't a
dull moment in Toronto. I had hearty chats with Joyce (Lee) Luk,
Winnie (Koo) Chan and Andy Law ( ù Âí «G ) over the phone. Old colleagues like Stephen Tang, KK Poon and former CCSC students Kenny Ho ( ¦ó ¦¿ ¨} ), Raymond Chik ( ®u »P §» ) and Stanley Kwok ( ³¢ ¾U ±d ) and their spouses treated me to a buffet dinner at the Wasabi, a Japanese restaurant in name but serving international cuisine. This restaurant is highly recommended as there is a great variety of Eastern Western food and there is always something which appeals the the most picky and fastidious appetites. We reminisced "adventures" and "escapades" of good old days and shared experiences of our current lives. We were supposed to leave in 2 hours' time. But with Kenny Ho around (a Police Sergeant), we could stay as long as we liked.
Now I am back in Hongkong, but my mind still wanders in Phoenix, as Vegas, Los Angeles, Toronto & Vancouver. Travel is really pleasurable.
Cheers
Winnie

Mrs Leung and Ms M Ng in an unofficial pre-retirement gathering
Ms Cheng (Mrs Leung), School Secretary, is retiring this summer. She started working as the School Secretary in 1969, even before the school began operation as a new school and was still in the preparatory stages. We thank her for her many years of dedicated service and wish her good health and best of luck in her well deserved retirement.

Subject: UCLA Commencement Updates
Hi Mr. Ching,
Thanks for posting my UCLA Ph.D. hooding video and pre-commencement pictures. Here are the “real?pictures taken on my commencement day (June 14, 2008). Would you please replace the current preview ones with them? =)
It was such a memorable day for me. My mom and Josephine Hui [F7 1998] flew all the way from Hong Kong to Los Angeles for my walk.
When I was talking to one of the professors outside Pauley Pavilion (the commencement venue), I suddenly realized, it has been 16 years since I met Josephine at CCSC. We met each other in the same class during F.2. Having a lifelong friendship like that, what a blessing in life!

 | Photo Legend: (1) The first photo was captured by Josephine during the Ph.D. hooding ceremony. I (in University of California official blue regalia) was being hooded by my advisor Dr. Ho (in Johns Hopkins yellow regalia). (2) The second one was taken in front of Royce Hall at UCLA, together with Josephine. (3) The third picture was a group picture of Dr. Ho’s lab. We have a pretty big group like 25 ?30 people, so it’s like 1/3 of the people shown up that day. |

We had a pretty intensive road trip before the commencement as Josephine only had a week here with me! My labmate termed that as See America in One Week, well pretty much! We drove to San Francisco, Monterey, Vegas and Grand Canyon in 5.5 days. 2,400 miles! We had a great time! Here I also include one of the pictures we took in Grand Canyon National Park.
In April 2008, I actually went back to Hong Kong to attend the wedding of Wendy Hung [F5 1996] and Guinness Shum [F5 1996]. I was very glad to have shared one of their happiest moments in life with them in person. I should have shot you an email about this earlier but was tied down by my dissertation writing and oral defense preparation for June. Now everything is done! Yes! And here I am. I have also enclosed one of the banquet pictures taken on that day.

From the left: Josephine Hui [F7 1998], Guinness Shum [F5 1996], Wendy Hung [F5 1996], Charlotte Kwong [F7 1999].
About me: I am done with my Ph.D. degree at UCLA, specialized in Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) and Nanotechnology. Now trying to wrap up my work: polish my dissertation and file it to the library, finish up the patent application paperwork for my invention, write up another journal paper?then I will leave UCLA and relocate to Oregon in Sept. I have a job offer as Test R & D Engineer from (Name of Company withheld) waiting for me which is scheduled to start in Oct.
Thank you so much for your help about the update. And I wish everything is going well around you. =)
Best Regards,
Charlotte
