Hi Mr. Ching,
My name is Charlotte Kwong, name went as KWONG Ching Han at CCSC in the old times (well, now my official full name is way too long =P). I graduated from CCSC (F. 7) in 1999. I believe I did not get a chance to meet you at CCSC in my old days. Time does fly, just a blink, it’s been 8 years after I left CCSC. A lot of things (ups and downs like everyone does) happened to me in last couple years. For which, I had never dreamt of being the person I am at this moment. Familiar faces disappeared, new people come and go, leaving Hong Kong, studying in the States… The only thing did not change is, I really miss my old days at CCSC a lot, especially the time when I was 15. The days I studied and hanged out with my best friend, no matter in school or after school. CCSC bears my sweetest (truly caring friends) and hardest time in life. Honestly, I never worked that hard continuously… haha… even when compare to my graduate school life… Good foundations built though!
After leaving CCSC in 1999, I moved onto my undergraduate studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), in the Department of Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering (former name as Mechanical and Automation Engineering). Like most of the CCSCers, I did well in college and graduated with First Class Honors in 2003. I was pretty lucky during my studies at CUHK, I was awarded the only scholarship for exchange program on campus in 2001, and did my exchange program at University of California, Los Angeles, majored in Astrophysics. Because of this experience, I got a couple graduate school offers and visited some big institutions in the States in 2002, like MIT, UC Berkeley. Lastly, I joined UCLA on awarded full fellowship in 2003, now I am working with Prof. Ho whom is regarded as one of the top ten ranked in the publications of Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) in the nation. Currently I am working on a NASA funded project, developing a portable blood analyzer (like those we are having for blood glucose monitoring but for Complete blood count). I am in my 4th year of Ph.D. studies, primarily focused on MEMS and Nanotech. I was advanced to Ph.D. candidacy in 2005, so hopefully I could finish my thesis and experiment, get the Ph.D. defense done and graduate by 2008, latest in 2009. Life was really pretty lucky and fruitful during the last couple years…
There were times, Mrs. Young (Ms. Mok) referred some young CCSCers to me, and I shared some points of view with those whom would like to pursue engineering in college or study abroad. I feel this is really good and I am happy to help them. I wish somebody could give me such advice when I was facing the choices. Knowing a bit more ahead, can pick the right path to pursue and be prepared better for challenges. I realize maybe this is a good place to share my little experience, or at least to let them know “my existence”, i.e., I am here to help if needed.
When I was on exchange, I met a younger CCSC alumnus, who was working with me when I was the welfare officer in CCSC student union. It is really a small world. Given that CCSC is very successful in academia, I believe I would have a great chance to meet more young fellow schoolmates here in the science and research field. Well, actually I had a professor taught me at CUHK, who was our alumnus! Not so surprised, we should have quite a lot of professors around the world, graduated from CCSC.
Strange enough, thru-out my 1st 20 years in life, I have never flown on a plane… Now, I got chances to fly to different places, couple times a year, becoz of research conferences, giving talks and travels. Recently I presented my research work in Tokyo for an international conference, microTAS, with 1300 attendants.
My recent research interview by UCLA is published here, together with my Professor and colleague:
http://www.engineer.ucla.edu/magazine/fall06/bloodtest.html
I really wish to share with you guys some of my pictures, however, I am not a person who enjoys to be in the picture very much (just feel weird about standing in front of the camera). The only recent one I could find is this. It was taken during my backpacking trip in Sep 2006, in front of The Parthenon of the Acropolis, Athens, Greece.
Currently I am supervising some undergraduate students in research. If by chance, any CCSCer (alumnus) around would like to pursue his/her graduate study, maybe I could help him/her to get a position to participate in our research, especially for summer exchange students from HKU, CUHK or HKUST. This would help greatly if you would like to go to top schools like MIT, UC Berkeley, Caltech, UIUC, U Mich… Oh, BTW, I got a tiny page on my research lab. It’s at http://ho.seas.ucla.edu/members/charlotte_ching-han_kwong.php. My boss would like everybody in lab to have a page, so there it goes.
From time to time, I read some of my old friends’ news on your website. It’s really great work! Thank you so much for your contribution to CCSCers.
Yours sincerely,
Charlotte (F7, 1999)
Currently in Los Angeles, United States
In a subsequent email, Charlotte provided some news of fellow CCSCers:
I will try to update you with other 1997, 98, 99 CCSCers’ news. I will be going back to Hong Kong to attend Hui Chi Wing Josephine’s (F7, 1998) wedding in the coming Oct. Actually a lot of my friends in CCSC have got married. Too bad that I missed their ceremonies, due to research program review schedule conflict, my boss just would not let me go anyway. To sum up, Dr. Kwok Yan Kitty (F7 1998) got married with her churchmate in Sep 2005, she is now a M.D. in internal medicine in Q.E., I believe. Dr. Ma Wai Kit (F7 1998) also got married with Kat Chan recently in Feb 2007. Dr. Ma is now a M.D. in surgery. I believe I would meet a lot of CCSCers in Josephine’s wedding ceremony. BTW, her fiancé is Angus, she met him in HKU. I am very excited about her wedding, will definitely share some pictures with you after my trip back to Hong Kong.
One of my good friends back in CCSC time now is teaching there. Her name is Kwok Yuen Ching Dorothy (F7 1999). A very nice and clever friend, she always has the patience to bear with me. =) I personally have a faith that she could be an excellent teacher. If you got a chance to visit CCSC in the future, you might have a chance to meet her in person.
Thank you, Charlotte.

BEIJING
Very exciting to get updated on the progress of Cheng Sau Ting Aileer [ F5 1994 ] who went from London to study at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and for her information about the upcoming Beijing Olympics. When I requested for a recent photo from Aileer, she promptly responded with this gorgeous photo... Wow... It's so nice. Thank you, Thank you..... (Full size photo in Family Album).

Next summer Olympic will open 8 o'clock, 8th August 2008, oh yeah, we chinese love the number 8.
Tickets will go on sale next month (very soon). If you like to take advantage of my residency, please express your interest ASAP
Started pinning patient in clinic, haven't killed anyone yet. Also find a massage boy and I pay him in English lesson, not bad as most teacher know that I'm more fluent in English than Chinese, it's actually effortless to speak English.
I think when I get back to London, there is no need to study too deep. Just do a few head acupunture which helps with brain power, I can earn enough by working 2 months a year (Jan and June, exam season).
Studying herbs now, going to drink them all.
That's about it for now.
Nice to hear from you again, Aileer. Interesting to know that you now poke needles into patients. After all, it's not you who feel the pain, so it 's good, haha.... But as for drinking all the herbs, I'd really have to think twice about it. I remember the dark stuff my mother gave me to drink as a kid when I got sick. They really taste bitter and awful, even though it usually came with a candy or preserved plum as a reward for taking it. -- Felix

Dear Ching Sir,
I enclose news of a recent gathering of schoolmates for your info.

BACK L-R: Wilson Chan, Jimmy Wong, Jackson Ho, Johnny Shih, Philip Chan.
FRONT: Bismarck Kam, Teddy Iu
The 1980 Form 5 and 1982 Form 7 graduates recently had a gathering to meet Jackson Ho in Hong Kong. Jackson migrated to Vancouver many years ago. We have not met each other for at least 5 years. The most recent occasion was the 35th anniversary of our Alma Mater. Your web page was excellent that it served as a platform for us schoolmates to exchange information and strengthen our bond with each other. I am sure you recognize a few familiar faces of your students as if it was yesterday.
Wishing you a happy Easter holiday.
Best Regards,
Wilson Chan

Dear Ching Sir,
How are you Ching Sir? I'd never been in your class. However, I do hope to meet you all. Although it was over 30 years ago, yet I did recognize most from the years of 1974 & 75. I spent hours and hours to recall all the memories. It was exciting tofi gure out who they are, like a puzzle being solved. Thanks to Au Fung Yee Agnes, she bumped into our church when she visited her cousin in California.
Let me give you some update of myself:
I left HK in 1979. I am married and have 2 children. They both graduated from UC Berkeley. My son finished his grad school at USC, is now works in LA as aerospace design engineer. He will get married next year. My daughter is an editor in NY. My husband is retired from air freight business now works on our own investment at home. I used to work in a high-tech company for over 10 years as logistic planner. Now I am also "retired" and spend most of my time as volunteer in the Chinese community and church. If anyone happen to visit SF or already in SF, please feel free to contact me.
Keep in touch.

I recognize the recent photos in your web site sent by Miss Lau Wing Yee. She might be same class with me before. Can you send her the attached photo to verify ?
Thanks.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA

I had the pleasure of meeting two CCSC people recently in the Bay Area: Mrs Sinn, formerly Chinese teacher, was around in the Bay Area in March and I had the chance of meeting and talking to her and having dinner together. Too bad I couldn't have spent more time with her, because I was busy preparing for my own trip driving down to Southern California. Also, a little earlier Poon Hak Fei [ F7 1993 ] came to the Bay Area for a short visit, and was received warmly by some classmates of the class F5 1991, viz. Lai Tan Hoi Clement, and Lau Mei Ying Rainbow who was accompanied by her husband Doug Kwan. By the way, it was great that Rainbow brought her 2-month old baby son. Congratulations for the new baby. Poon Hak Fei said he may come again soon, and we shall meet.

In March 2007 Au Fung Yee Agnes [ F7 1976 ] and her cousin from Vancouver came to California for a visit and stayed in Dublin, which is also my town. I took them to Yomesite National Park, Monterey Bay, and a place near Santa Cruz called Mystery Spot where the theory of Physics does not hold. Objects look crooked. A short person becomes taller and a tall person becomes shorter. In one isolated spot, anyone would feels dizzy. It is a very interesting place. Sending some photos....
Love,
Janie

PERTH, AUSTRALIA
Miss M. Ng, Mrs. Ko, Lau Kam Chuen and his wife Rita Chu spent 5 days in Perth, Australia, where former Vice-Principal Mrs S. Yuen used to reside. Mrs Yuen passed away in May, 2001.
Lau Kam Chuen and others came here for tour and fun, to attend the wedding ceremony of Mrs Yuen's son, Yuen Shun, and also to "sweep the graveyard" of Mrs Yuen. It is almost Ching Ming Festival time -- how apt !
Here is the photo of Mrs Yuen's grave. Other pictures will be posted in Family Album.
