Update # 81. February 5, 2007

IT'S BEEN QUITE A WHILE...

HERE IS A BUNDLE OF MISCELLANEOUS UPDATE INFORMATION
since last time.

  • I went to New York in January (2007), and had the chance to meet up with Tong Ka Pui Joan [ F5 1991 ], and got this great news:

Joan and her fiance, Ron, will be getting married on March 31, 2007. My heartiest Congratulations to Joan and Ron. Joan said former classmate Tsui Kwo Sonia (amongst others) will be going to her wedding.

It was real great that I could find and meet Joan and Ron during my trip to New York. It has been quite a long time since I last saw her, which must be 10 years ago when Joan flew to the San Francisco and attended one of our local Bay-Area CCSC reunions. Joan is a C.F.A., and lives and works in Manhatten area in New York City.

  • Very nice to hear from Cheng Sze Ming Samuel [ F7 1992 ]. From Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sam is Assistant Professor in Telecommunications. He wrote,
"I'm very happy to find your CCSC website somehow. My name is Cheng Sze Ming Samuel. I was in F7 class in 1992. I still remembered you taught me Chemistry in 1990. I studied and lived in Texas for the last 6 and half years and recently moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. I'd love to have a reunion one of these days."

    Yours sincerely,
    Sam
In his second letter Samuel went on to say that so far his life has been almost entirely academic-related. He studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering in HKU after F7 at CCSC. Trying to to learn something more of a "pure science" nature, he did a Master's degree in physics in HKUST. Then he went to University of Hawaii for another Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, and finally got his Ph.D. from Texas A&M, again in Electrical Engineering. After that, he worked for a while in a research company in Houston, but his preference is in academic work and he was looking for University Faculty positions. Last year he got several offers including NUS in Singapore and CUHK in Hong Kong, but he accepted the offer from University of Oklahoma, and stays in the United States.

He also said, "I am never a person very good in organizing my stuffs, including my photos. I do have a "business" picture taken though, when I first joined OK." But that's a nice photo !!!.... Thank you very much, Sam. ;-)

  • A successful public accountant having his own practice in Melbourne, Australia, Ng King Por Paul [ F5 1975 ] wrote to me, saying:
You taught me Chemistry in Form 4 and I retain a strong interest in the subject and I can still teach my children a thing or two about chemistry. I even helped them complete their chemistry homework at times. I am still in touch with some of the pupils in the class of 1975 including Ivy Cheng, Chung Hau Tim, Ho Yiu Ming etc. I understand they visited you in the US recently.

My son is a mad American Football fan and has a strong desire to go to the US to further his career in engineering. You never know, I may come to the US to pay you a visit....if that is ok with you.

Very nice you still remember H2SO4 and NaCl, ;-).... Hope to see you some day in the Bay Area, Paul. --- Felix.

    Ng King Por
Paul also attached a couple of photos he took with the old teachers and classmates in a Hong Kong restaurant on 29 December, 2006. "See if you recognise them," he said.

  • Earlier and coincidentally, Ho Yiu Ming Andy, of the same class [ F6 1976 ] had also brought us quite a bit of news update about himself and classmates. Thanks a lot, Andy !!!
    Dear Mr. Ching,

We haven't met for a long time since I left school in early 1976. I am very happy to receive your email and know that you still remember me. I visited Ivy and Tim in Sydney last year. They told me you had migrated to US and had established an unofficial CCSC alumni website. Not until recently, I have found the link of your website in the CCSC alumni website.

I left CCSC in January 1976 to further my study in Melbourne. I graduated from University of Melbourne in Architecture (Hons) in 1982. I returned to HK in 1983 and worked here for a short while. Between 1984 and 1991, I worked on the Bishan New Town development in Singapore and the Melbourne Central project in Melbourne respectively. In 1992, I joined the HK Airport Authority to work on the new Replacement Airport Passenger Terminal at Chek Lap Kok. Now I am working as a Senior Manager (Construction) at....

I am married with two little boys, age 18 months and 4 months. Attached are a family photo and a photo taken in the last Sydney trip for your sharing please.

William Chan Chun Chung told me you were in HK a few months ago. How was your trip? Did you manage to meet some of the teachers and students? I have lost contact with Lee Kwok Hay for a long time. Do you have his email address?

I am still in contact with Max Yeung Pud Kuen and Judith Li Yim Wan, who visited HK last year. I should be able to get the contact from them.

Cindy Lam Yim Ping who was in Form 5B will arrive HK from United States (Florida?) sometime today. We will have a small gathering with her on coming Sunday. We have invited Mr. Law to join us, but he will be in China on that day.

Chung Hau Tim, Cheng Mi Yu and family will visit HK and China in December. We will have another gathering with them.

For your information, Duncan Lam Sau Fung, Matthew Lam Wing Kong, Alain Ip Chun Yee and Fok Chung Hung are working in China.

William Lau Tai Chuen has returned to Toronto after he finished his job in China a few years ago.

Please keep in touch and bye for now

    Best regards,
    Andy Ho

  • It gave me much pleasure seeing the family photos from Venus Sinn (Venus Leung) of [ F2 1987 ]. She is the daughter of Mrs Sinn, former Chinese teacher at CCSC. Venus had studied at CCSC up to Form 2 until she emigrated to Chicago with her parents. Both Venus and her husband Vincent Leung are managing consultants in computing industry. Venus wrote:

    Dear Mr. Ching.

It has been a long time since I met up with you in San Francisco with my mom, Mrs. Sinn. We have moved from the suburbs of Chicago to downtown Chicago 4 years ago and very much enjoying the city life. I would like to share some pictures with you. Our daughter, Lauren Elizabeth Leung, is now 2 years and 4 months. Hope all is well with you and your family.

  • So much for student news.... Perhaps let us now go to some NEWS of the TEACHERS.

Click Photo to go to Mr. Wat's BLOG

Now having much more time to spare, retired Mr Wat (formerly Mathematics teacher) has been diligently catching up with a series of travelling plans that he had missed while serving as teacher. He didn't have the luxury to take a vacation owing to the incredibly busy teaching scheduless he was faced with all these years. Now, ever since April 2006 he and Mrs Wat had visited Las Vegas and the West Coast of United States, and paid us a visit in San Francisco. Then, he spent another long holiday with his relatives in Sydney and Canberra in Australia. No sooner had he gotten barely enough rest after getting off the plane, did Mr Wat board another plane again -- this time to Singapore, to stay with another group of relatives.

I cannot help thinking.... Gee, Mr Wat... with so many different places you've visited in such a short time, are you sure you can remember all of them and tell which one is which?

Don't Worry, says Mr Wat, I've got all useful information organized and written out as soon as possible, because recently I signed up for a BLOG. I have been writing every time I have something to keep in record.

Wanna see what kind of memoirs Mr Wat has written so far?
    Just Click here, hehe....

WISH YOU ALL GOOD HEALTH AND GOOD LUCK
IN THE YEAR OF THE PIG

    Felix
