Update # 71. June 27, 2005

HI, I'M BACK AGAIN

I apologize for delinquency in the Updates Section, not having written there for more than half year now. I did still continually post new photos in the Family Album, though, as soon as I received them. Making a photo album page is much easier than writing out a page of text. ;-)  Anyway, here I am back again.

Let me begin with the newest news.

FIVE TEACHERS TO RETIRE THIS YEAR

Just got the unofficial word that five teachers are going to retire this summer: Mrs Ko, Miss M. Ng, Miss Su, Mr Wat, and Mrs J. Wong. All of them have devoted their entire working career to CCSC, and joined the school when it first opened in 1969. (Mrs Ko joined us in the School's third year(?).

By their devotion and determined efforts, these teachers have been instrumental in consolidating each student's foundation, shaping higher standards and aspirations, and setting the "house rules" for every student to follow -- as soon as he/she enters into Form 1 (S1). All these years, students and teachers alike, have witnessed the subtle and important role they have played as the school attains the success and reputation it enjoys today.

While showing our deep respect and appreciation of their work, we also wish them good health and every happiness in their deserved retirement.

The 5 retiring teachers threw a buffet lunch party for all teachers on June 22, 2005. Photos of the party can be found in the Family Album (Family Album Page 199). I would also take this opportunity to thank Mr. K. K. Lai of the Laboratory (far right in picture below) for the feed of current CCSC pictures he has kindly provided us at all times.

Dear Mr. Ching,

Thank you for putting such a meaningful webpage together. I can't stop smiling when I see familiar faces in the website. My name is Alwen Yeung (F5 1993). I was a choir pianist for couple years and we had wonderful choir leading by Miss Su. I still remember all our great teachers, funniest ever Miss Wong (Geography); prettiest Miss Chan (P.E.); Nice Mr. Chan (Math) and so much more that I can't include them all.

Currently I am in Tallahassee, Florida (attending Florida State University for my master's degree in Piano Pedagogy) and will move to Americus, Georgia in two weeks.

I just got married in March 2005. Here is my wedding picture in First Presbyterian Church, Tallahassee, Florida. You are welcome to browse my other wedding photos at http://alwen.multiply.com.
[Congratulations, Alwen !!! I captured some of the photos from your album and posted in Family Album Page 200. --Felix ] My husband, Brian is a history professor in the local university while I just got hired as a piano accompanist in Columbus State University. I am also planning to have my own private studio once I got my baby grand.

If anyone remembers me, please email me at alwenyeung@yahoo.com I would definitely love to hear from y'all. (Well, I got some "Southern" accent after being in Florida for few years!)

Cheers,
Alwen

The pic on the right is Alwen's one year old adopted cat Abelard, half siamese and half tabby. Alwen also sent a picture of her newly adopted 3.5 y.o. German Shepherd, Sturm. I put Sturm's picture in Update #63 together with the other canine photos from other alumni.

Hello Ching Sir,

Happy holidays! I just want to give a quick update to my dear classmates and teachers since I haven't gone back to HK for quite a while. I see many familiar faces in your family album which remind me of good old days. Here are two pictures I want to share with all of you. Both were taken this August during the trip to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks.

Oh, almost forgot the quick update: I completed my Ph.D. from Princeton two years ago and joined General Electric Global Research Center as a research scientist in upstate New York.

Keep in touch,
Hak Fei Poon

Dear Felix,

Yup, I'm in London and will be in London for a while too though I so wanted to volunteer in Sri Lanka after I've seen an advert last week.

You've been talking about your knee problems for years, and I remember you're afraid of accupuncture, hm.. what about a trip to the Sahara

I'll take up lessons in Latin percussion in May, look forward to that. Thanks for my friends in Harbin last year when we just bang on more or less everything. I learned flute for a while when i did my AL, well learning music in UK while you're in school seems to be so much easier than in HK, also the AL was so easy that it was like a 2 years holiday, would have been wrong not to learn something. Only regret I didn't learn how to fly.

Stop here for now, take care

Dear Ching Sir

When I browsed your website recently and found the picture sent by Ms Winnie Wong with Ms Marian Wu in it.

Ms Wu was my form teacher before I left for overseas studies. The last time I met her was when she was teaching in HK Polytechnic.

I am now running a setup in HK & China and thus spend most of time in HK & China. ( Ho Wing Ki's permanent home is in Singapore. -- Felix )

Do you think you can provide me a link to locate Miss Wu? Say, through Miss Wong?

Thanx.

Ho Wing Ki finally succeeded in getting the contact from Miss Winnie Wong.

Hello, Ching Sir,

Happy July 4th.

Attached is our latest family picture taken on my wife's birthday dinner.
I just fixed my bike with "pre-owned" saddlebags from eBay and new taillights. Now I can bring home groceries and enjoy my ride at the same time.

Congratulations to the new S5 graduates of 2005.

Their Graduation Dinner took place on June 30, 2005 at the Harbour View Room of The Excelsior Hotel, and it certainly was a great memorable occasion. I appreciate the speed at which Mr. K. K. Lai rushed the photos to us so I can add a "Stop Press" here. Thank you, K.K. I wish all graduates a bright future and every success as they move on to further studies or to work.
