MRS D. CHAN VISITS SAN FRANCISCO

Now in her third year after retirement, Mrs Diana Chan, former Biology teacher, is still enjoying her relaxed life with no more daily hassle in lesson preparation and the ever-increasing school administrative work load, in particular. This October she and her husband Mr. Luke Chan are taking a trip to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, with several of their relatives all coming here from different cities/countries. Their daughter who lives and works in Chicago has also come over here to join them. I had the great pleasure of spending half a day with Diana and Luke at my place, and subsequently having dim-sum together at El Cerrito. After more than 10 years we had just too many things to talk about, whether on retired life and past times, old days when teaching at CCSC, or past students. Too bad we did not have enough time to arrange meeting with some of her past students in the Bay Area. Mrs Chan does remember the names that she had taught before, including Wong Chi Huen Connie and some others.

Hi Ching Sir,

Well I just come to Phila for my 2nd Degree and now I m taking prerequisites of Nursing Degree in Thomas Jefferson University, hopefully I will get into the program in next Fall...

True Phila is a very "old" and classic city and the living style is totally different... u know what my room is facing a big big church that u never have such chance to have such view in HK.... everything is new and funny for me...

I know many of CCSC alumni are in Bay Area now (from ur website) and probably i will drop by to San Francisco next year to visit Yeewai (ie. Chong Yee Wai).... ^_^ and we all can meet up!!

Attached is my recent photo with my suitemates :)

Anyway keep in touch...

Regards,
Fenny

Hi there, Fenny. How very nice to hear from you. Are you still in College at Philadelphia or already working? By the way I like Philadelphia... I have been to Philadelphia about 4 years ago, my first time in Philadelphia. I went there on a work conference, but still had the chance of going around some places. Besides the historical buildings, I like the Museum of Art the most.

Well, Fenny welcome to join the overseas ccsc family. If you happen to come over to San Francisco Bay Area, do let us know... perhaps we can meet. We have a group of people and we do see each other infrequently.

It would be great if you can let us have an update of your current whereabouts, and if you can send us some photos it would be even better. You know it is exactly in this way that our alumni information has accumulated. Would treasure your inputs...

Anyway, very nice to hear from you again, Fenny, and keep in touch.

Felix

SOME NEWS FROM MISS WINNIE WONG

Thanks to Miss Winnie Wong for the updates/information she just sent us:

[ 1 ] :
Long time no hear! But I always enjoy browsing through your website. I should have sent the attached photo to you last year, but I was too busy hunting for a new home. If I haven't told you, I have moved to a smaller home since last December. That's why I could not find the photo disc until tonight. It's my nephew's wedding (my youngest brother's son) in July 2003 in Nashua, New Hampshire. I worked very hard to shed off a few pounds so that I could struggle into a "Cheongsam".

This brother has recently moved to the West Coast. I shall visit him at Eugene, Oregon from 23 December to 1 January 2005, then off to Vancouver from 1 January to 6 January 2005. If there are CCSC alumni in these two places who want to see me, please let me know. [ Please contact Miss W. Wong if you want to arrange meeting with her. ]

[ 2 ] :
The second photo is the Clinic Opening of a 1990 matriculant, Tse Tsz Wah [ F7 1990 ] on 9th October 2004. We are proud of him because he worked for Medecins Sans Frontieres for 2-3 years before returning to civilization to establish himself. Quite a party of well-wishers turned up, among whom were many of his former school pals and bosom buddies.

Tse Tsz Wah specializes in dermatology and acupuncture. Attached is a photo of him and the Class of '90.

Following Miss Winnie Wong's introduction, I have been able to gather some more information about MSF and Tse Tsz Wah:

Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), or "Doctors Without Borders" is an international humanitarian aid organisation that provides emergency medical assistance to populations in danger in more than 80 countries. In countries where health structures are insufficient or even non-existant, MSF collaborates with authorities such as the Ministry of Health to provide assistance. MSF works in rehabilitation of hospitals and dispensaries, vaccination programmes and water and sanitation projects. MSF also works in remote health care centres, slum areas and provides training of local personnel. All this is done with the objective of rebuilding health structures to acceptable levels.

Dr Tse Tsz Wah graduated from Hong Kong University in 1995 and had been working with United Christian Hospital since the completion of his internship. He has spent a year in London to do a Master's Degree in Clinical Dermatology. After deciding to join MSF to become a field volunteer, he went to England again to receive training on Sexually Transmitted Diseases and HIV/AIDS. He also managed to do some self-studies on Tropical Medicine during the period in order to get himself more prepared for the mission. He worked in an HIV/AIDS treatment programme in Merauke, Indonesia from May 2003 to May 2004.

[ 3 ] :
Miss Fok and I (Miss W Wong) try very hard to cheer Mr. Fung up by encouraging him to join us in our activities, such as a trip to Yuen Long or up the Peak. He has finally accepted his misfortune (or fortune?  -- when considering the increasing work load for teachers these days) that he has to retire prematurely. He is also trying hard in speech and making himself understood. But still, most of the time we have to guess what he is saying. On the optimistic side, steady progress is made.....

Thank you, Winnie, for your detailed updates.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA

Congratulations to Lau Mei Ying Rainbow [ F5 1991 ] and Doug Kwan on the occasion of their House Warming Party last month. Their house is beautiful. From Rainbow, I learnt that Lai Tan Hoi Clement [ F5 1991 ] is going to get married. Tang Po Wan Ariel [ F4 1990 ] is getting married to Onder Cap very soon also. Actually the date of Rainbow's House Warming coincides with Ariel's Bridal Shower. Congratulations to all of you.

Having left CCSC for almost three decades, Tang Kwong Chuen Alex [ F5 1977 ] visited Hong Kong in October 2004 and met with former classmates and teachers. He writes back to his old folks in HK after returning to his Castro Valley, California, home :
I had a great time in HK. Of course, meeting with some of you made my trip so memorable. After 27 years, we have all aged and changed. It was so much fun looking back at our adventures back in CCSC days. I visited CCSC in this trip. Even the school has aged and so did the teachers. A lot of memories popped up. Going to see the principal used to be the most frightening thing. This time was totally a different feeling walking into the principal office to meet with Mr. Yuen. I also met with my buddies at CCSC.

HK has surely changed a lot. I don't think I am accustomed to the lifestyle & pace anymore after being away for so long. I don't know when I will come to HK again but I will surely miss you all. Pls keep in touch.

Alex
