Update # 49. August 9, 2002

10-A "JONG YUEN" FROM CCSC, 2002

My heartiest congratulations to current F5 student Choi Sze Yeung for attaining 10 Distinctions in the 2002 HKCEE. This is the first 10A "Jong Yuen" ever produced at CCSC and certainly it calls for a big celebration. I would like to extend my congratulations not only to Choi Sze Yeung himself for his impressive achievement, but also to his parents and family, and no doubt, to all CCSC teachers who are the "trainers".

Someone pointed out to me that while we are extremely happy to see our first "Jong Yuen" born this year, it's not to say CCSC did not have the Jong-Yuen Quality in the past. We had no 10A "Jong Yuens" in the past simply because the students only entered for a maximum of 9 subjects in HKCEE. We did have a number of straight-A's (9 distinctions) and that was the best one can get -- but newspapers only interviewed 10A achievers !

Anyway, here is a clipping of one of the newspaper reports about CCSC's new Jong Yuen, from AppleDaily Newspaper.

My thanks to Jacky Fan [ F5 1992 ] who quickly sent me the breaking good news and newspaper clippings.

[ APPENDED: August 10, 2002 ]
Just got the news that Josephine Yuen, daughter of Vice Principal Mr Yuen, also emerged from the HKCEE with flying colors and ranked 5th among the Arts students in CCSC. Congratulations to Josephine and Mr Yuen.

STUDENT UPDATES

Jacky Fan [ F5 1992 ] took the opportunity to give us a little update about himself:
.........

I just graduated from Carnegie Mellon MBA program in mid-May and has been hunting for job. Praise the Lord for HIS guidance and direction, I finally received a job offer yesterday! I still have to wait for an answer from another company to make my decision. Hopefully I'll have all the things settled soon.

Right now I'm in Philadelphia to accompany my girlfriend as she's working for her summer intern. About 10 days later I will move back to Pittsburgh and then relocate to where my future job will be. Will give you more update and the new contact information once I have it.

Stay in touch, and enjoy the article.

Cheers,
Jacky

Thank you so much, Jacky.

(RECEIVED & APPENDED on AUGUST 14, 2002):
I appreciate the support from Wong Chi Pan Ricky [ F7 1985 ] who keeps us updated by sending me email and photo every now and then.

Dear Ching Sir,

This is WONG Chi-pan, Ricky (F.7, 1985) from Hong Kong. I am really excited to know the emergence of first "Jong Yuen" from CCSC. I recalled that the "Jong Yuen" in both HKCEE (1983) and HKAL (1985) of my time was Ching Sik Lun Wallace. Though not a 10A "Jong Yuen" (because nobody entered more than 8 subjects in 80's), he was really a smart guy who won a scholarship to study for a Bachelor degree in Oxford University and later got a PhD degree in the States. He is now a Chartered Financial Analyst in Hong Kong.

Not having seen each other for over 15 years, I recently bumped into an old friend of my matriculation class, Charles Yeung. We both studied Civil Engineering but in different institutions. He graduated from HKU in 1988 while I graduated from HK Polytechnic in 1989. He is a civil engineer working in a large French contractor in Hong Kong, and I work for the HKSAR. We met because we both are in the same MBA programme of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. As shown in the attached picture, Charles was in the middle and I was wearing a helmet. The photo was taken in Shanghai (June 2002) [ Full version of photo in Family Album P.113 ] where we made lots of visit to state enterprise and financial institutions there. We are both graduating this summer. I will send you more of our graduation photos this Autumn.

Shall keep you updated. Regards,

Ricky WONG Chi-pan
(F.7 1985)

It is also great to hear from Moshea Tsang [ F3 1991 ], who had her university and graduate school in London, but had returned to work in HK:
Hi Ching Sir

Long time no talk, how are you doing? Life is quite busy for myself. I'm trying my best to enhance myself with more skills, as what Mr Tung - the HK SAR Govenor said. Haha... Anyway, work is OK at the moment but not very busy. They have cut quite a bit of spending on IT and, hence, a lot of the projects at work are being hold back.

Anyway, some CCSC mates and myself had a quick gathering with Mr Wat last week. We also went to visit his new house in Shatin and it's pretty nice. At least, it is not close to another building and the view is quite open.

How's your life? Take care.

Moshea

MISS WINNIE WONG RETIRES

Cheung Chuk Shan College bid farewell to Miss Winnie Wong who retires after many years of service. Students as early as the 1970s still have fond memories of her English classes. We did receive pictures of her farewell dinners from several sources, including (with BIG thanks to each...) Mr K K Lai of the Laboratory, Mr Shick C K Siu who has always been our Photo Feed, and Miss Winnie Wong herself. So the photos can be seen on P.103, P.106, P.110, and P.111. Take a look.

We wish Miss Winnie Wong good health and lots of happiness in her deserved retirement.

MRS SINN (MISS LAM) IN SAN FRANCISCO

Poon Yau Shun Andy [ F7 1976 ] and wife Chan Yin Man Anna [ F5 1974 ] had the pleasure of meeting Mrs Sinn, former Chinese teacher, in San Francisco in July. Mrs Sinn, a gardening enthusiast herself, was interested in seeing Andy's greenhouse in his home, and to see his huge Mastif too. It has been more than 20 years since the two past students met Mrs Sinn, and there was a real great reunion. Thanks for the delicious dinner, Andy.
