BAY AREA REUNION 2002
Anna Chan (Poon), Andy Poon , Ching Sir, Tony Chan, Tanya (Tony's friend), Connie Wong, Anna Wong
Ariel Tang, Robin Ko, Eric Ng, Peter Cheung, Rainbow Lau, Doug Kwan
On March 15, 2002 the Bay Area alumni sat together for dinner again, at Ming's at Palo Alto. Thanks to Tang Po Wan Ariel [ F4 1990 ] for helping with the reservation. Ariel still works as a mechanical engineer at Cisco.
We took the opportunity to congratulate Eric Ng Man Ho [ F5 1991 ] for bringing his bachelor life to a conclusion, and getting ready for a new episode as a family man. In early April he will get married in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. Then he will bring back his bride, Connie, to his Union City home. His wedding is actually on April 6. It is so nice to see that the time has come for Eric (and many of his similarly aged classmates too) to "close the skylight window" (Cantonese saying). We wish Eric and Connie every happiness thereafter.
Somehow every time right before our reunions we usually discover a few new alumni in the Bay Area. This time is no exception. Through the efforts of Lau Kam Chuen we were so glad to meet Poon Yau Shun Andy [ F5 1976 ] and his wife Chan Yin Man Anna [ F5 1974 ]. They have been living in San Francisco since 1990, with three children. Andy began his banking career early in Hong Kong. Then when he migrated to San Francisco about 10 years ago, he was transferred to the San Francisco Branch of the same bank. With so many years' experience in banking, he switched to software development in a company that specializes in banking systems. He is currently the Project Manager. Anna also works in a bank in San Francisco and at the same time she takes good care of her three children. Andy is an orchid enthusiast and recently he purchased a big greenhouse and installed it in his backyard. He also keeps a huge dog at home, a mastif.
We enjoyed immensely the company of newly discovered old CCSC'er, Ko Wan Lung Robin [ F7 1990 ]. In the party, Robin recognized Doug Kwan, husband of Lau Mei Ying Rainbow [ F7 1993 ], as both Robin and Doug had attended HKU Electronic Engineering at the same time. Robin got both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at University of Hong Kong. In 2000 he moved to San Jose, and is now a Senior Design Engineer in a semiconductor company in Milpitas. He said he recognized the name Thomas Yu Siu Wai in the Updates web page and still remembers him.
Wong Chi Huen Connie [ F6 1995 ] made it this time to the reunion. Last time she wanted to come but was held up by her experiments in the laboratory. It is very nice to see her again after two years. Connie is currently working towards her Ph.D. degree in Cell Biology at Stanford University. Despite the heavy workload, Connie knows to relax and exercise. She does a lot of dancing recently whenever she has time.
Also from Stanford was Wong Wing Wah Anna [ F6 1996 ]. Anna and Connie Wong came across each other on campus a couple of weeks ago. Actually Anna's home is in Canada, and she completed her undergraduate at University of Toronto, and she is currently doing her Master's degree in EE at Stanford University. It is real pleasure to meet her. By the way, Anna happened to be the only person who was carrying a camera, so all the photos here are from her. Thank you, Anna.
We extended our warm welcome to Tanya, friend of Chan Yau Kit Tony [ F2 1987 ], to the dinner. Tony mentioned his plans to go to China to do volunteer work there. He wants the people there to know that by the love of God someone is willing to put down his daily work and income, and go such a long way just to provide some help.
Cheung Ngai Peter [ F5 1991 ] is doing ok and has recently acquired residentship. Lai Tan Hoi Clement was unable to come as he just had an oral surgery (took out 4 wisdom teeth). Eric bumped into Elain Sim [ F5 1991 ] some time ago and asked her to join us. But she couldn't make it as she had to "baby-sit" her 1-year-old puppy.
Yu Kin Keung James is among the earliest batches of CCSC graduates. Now he is a dentist at San Francisco and is always busy. He said he wanted to come to the reunion, but his tight schedules finally prevented him from coming. He said,
"Dear Mr Ching,
It's good to meet some of our teachers and classmates in HK after so many years. Please let me know about the dinner gathering. I may not be able to go, but I'll try my best.
Thank you.
James Yu
UPDATES RECEIVED DURING THE REUNION
Robin Ko talked about things he knew about his classmates. Angeline Linna Liauw [ F7 1990 ] who had been Head Girl at CCSC, got her M.B.,B.S. degrees from University of Hong Kong and is now a doctor in O&G. She got married to Wong To [ F7 1990 ] two years ago. Angeline later emailed to me:
Dear Mr. Ching,
It's really long long time that we haven't heard from each other. Just heard from Robin Ko that you live in SF. If I had known earlier, we could have met 2 years ago when I went to the United States for my honeymoon.
Well, you were really a great teacher in my student time. I have learnt a lot from you.
After high school, I studied medicine in the medical school in HKU. Well, later I got the chance to study in United Kingdom either in the St. Mary's Hospital of University of London, or in Liverpool. I finally chose to stay in HK because I thought it is easier for graduates in HK to find job. It turned out that those doctors who graduated overseas are not so privileged in job-hunting now as in the past.
I have been working for about 6 years after graduation. My concentration is on Obstetrics and Gynaecology. In the coming summer, I will take the exit examination and get the specialist registration if I pass it.
How are you recently?
I will get you my wedding photo later.
Angeline

CANINE LOVERS AMONG BAY AREA ALUMNI
Poon Yau Shun Andy has a huge mastif, called Danny, that is only 2 year old. More pictures of Andy and the Mastif can be found on Page 97 of Family Album. Andy is not the only dog lover among Bay Area alumni. Ng Man Ho Eric [ F5 1991 ] is another one. Eric has a Golden Retriever called Beamer and he has trained him to do lots of tricks. Earlier photos of Eric and Beamer can be found on Page 69.
Elain Sim [ F5 1991 ] is yet another dog lover. About two months ago Eric ran into former classmate Elain, and he thought of asking Elain to join our Reunion Party, but she said she she couldn't make it, because:
Sorry that i won't be able to make it on fri cos' my bf is leaving for a business trip to Germany tomorrow, which left me to be the only caretaker of our little puppy for the entire week. :)
Even though my puppy just had his 1 year-old birthday yesterday and weighs 65 pounds, he is absolutely still
a puppy at heart with all those "fantastic" characteristics -- EXTREMELY hyper, jumpy, has too much energy, chews on almost everything, easy to get bored, loves to get all the attention. Also, since I am locking him up in the bathroom 7
hours a day, (i can't let him run free in the house for the time being or our living room will become a battefield when i get off work) i'd really like to spend some valuable time with him in the evening. :)
Thanks for asking but I really don't think I can make it this time. count me in next time!
Anyone who loves dogs and would want to share experiences or have a photo to post in our web site, please contact me by email.
MORE ALUMNI FOUND
I found Fung Yu-shan's web page and was able to contact him by email. He is currently in Graduate School at Stanford University.
He left CCSC at the beginning of Form 3, and does not have many contacts with people of those days. From CCSC, he went to Singapore where he did meet a few CCSC alumni over there. One of them, Chong Yee Wai, is on the alumni list on this web site. He said, even though he is not exactly the most sociable person around, if we are organizing some sort of dinner or reunion, he would try to make it. Thank you so much, Yu Shan. We look forward to meeting you in our next gathering.
From SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
Chung Hau Tim [ F5 1975 ] is going to visit San Francisco to attend conference at Moscone Center from 16th May, 2002. He will be staying in San Francisco for about a week. "It is going to be a very academic and busy meeting. Each session starts at 6:45am and its satellite meeting can last to 8pm......"
Tim is currently a specialist doctor in liver diseases and has several consultation practices at different parts of Sydney area. He and his wife Cheng Mi Yu Ivy [ F7 1977 ] and 2 children live in the suburbs of Sydney, Australia.
Classmates and friends in the Bay Area who want to meet Chung Hau Tim (either May 17 or 18) please get in touch with me.
