We tried our best to throw a quick party as we heard that Tin Shun Kam Raymond [ F4 1989 ] has decided to return to HK and will leave the Bay Area on the 22nd of June. It was a challenge to gather as many as we could find, but we made it. On Monday June 11, 2001 we bid farewell to Raymond at Joy Luck Place in Cupertino, and wished him best of luck in Hong Kong.

This was also a reunion evening when we had the great pleasure of meeting three long-lost-and-found CCSC alumni for the first time in the Bay Area: Tse Tin Sing [ F7 1979 ], Fung Pik Yeuk Rebecca [ F7 1984 ] and Dora Lee [ F5 1989 ].

Thanks to Wong Chi Huen Connie [ F6 1995 ] who volunteered to find a good restaurant and made a reservation. Unfortunately after doing all this, she herself could not come, as she was held up in her experiment in the Lab. "Sorry about that... there's really no way for me to control how fast my cells grow," she wrote. (Connie is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Cell Biology at Stanford University.)

Others who were present included: Tang Po Wan Ariel [ F4 1990 ], Cheung Ngai Peter [ F5 1991 ], Ng Man Ho Eric [ F5 1991], Felix Ching, Hung Ho Chak Steven [ F7 1999 ], and Chan Yau Kit Tony [ F2 1987 ]. Lai Tan Ho Clement [ F5 1991 ] had planned to come but found himself too busy that evening.

There was indeed quite an age gap among the alumni sitting at the same table, a gap of as much as 20 years. But they talked and laughed so harmoniously and free from any constraints, almost like the student days back at CCSC. Nor was a "ice-breaking" period necessary. We just jumped into conversation right away as soon as we sat down and introduced ourselves to each other. Things went so easily probably because all of us share some similar chemistry. Or shall we call it Family Compatibility ? It was real enjoyable to talk about the School, about teachers and staff, fellow students, and anything related to CCSC. . . .

Tid-bits to share for personal update:

  • Ariel Tang will return to HK from 6/22 to attend Lau Mei Ying Rainbow's wedding. As a key person in the Sisters' Team, Ariel would take the lead in blocking access to the bride's room. They would not open the door to anyone, not even the groom.... unless he softens the sisters' hearts by a "sizeable" Red Packet. [ Doug Kwan, .... if you happen to read this, please take note. ]

  • Rainbow will soon come over and live in the Bay Area, where her husband Doug Kwan is working.

  • Heard that Hau Yim Ping Fiona is going to get married soon. And Wong Wing Yee Wynne too. Congratulations to both you.

  • I want to thank Fiona Hau for the very nice souvenirs she had asked Ariel to bring back to me from Hong Kong the last time. Ariel told me about it but I didn't get them till yesterday. Thank you, Fiona and Ariel.

  • Eric Mok who resides in Singapore, will be in the Bay Area and L.A., Rebecca told me. Let's see if there is the chance of meeting him.

  • Steven Hung is an EECS student at U.C. Berkeley and is currently doing summer internship at IBM at San Jose.  When introducing Steven to the new Big Brother and Big Sister, I told them Steven is one of CCSC's recent "Jong Yuen's".

Rebecca Fung who joined our reunion for the first time, wrote to me the day after:

What a great dinner ! I was thrilled to be with such a lively crowd. It was a lot of fun to chat about the good old days. I hope we'll be able to find more CCSC alumni or teachers down the road......

Regards,
Rebecca

Tse Tin Sing [ F7 1979 ], besides showing great delight in meeting the dynamic and energetic "next generation" of the CCSC family, also had some reflections which he summarized in a quote of the old Chinese saying:

長 江 後 浪 推 前 浪
一 代 新 人 勝 舊 人
