Update # 28. September 28, 2000

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA

Lee Sing Fun Paul [ F7 1985 ], from Hong Kong, is now attached for two months to University of California San Francisco Medical Center, in interventional radiology.

Within the first week of his arrival to San Francisco, Paul almost got a new life's experience. We ran into a strong earthquake one night, at a magnitude 5.2 on the Richter Scale. I woke up from my sleep when the bed was shaking and the glass rattling. (The quake actually caused quite some damage around the epicenter in the towns in Napa Valley.) Too bad Paul was not "experienced" enough to be able to sense the shaking in his sleep, hence missed the chance of feeling an earthquake first-hand. Maybe next time..... :-)

Stanford University Medical Center

Having been to San Francisco a few times before Paul is familiar with the places. On weekends he goes around the city, and also managed to go to the Mid-Autumn Festival Fair at Chinatown, and even joined a local tour to the casino city Reno in Nevada, all by himself. I have brought him to Sacramento (California's capital city), Berkeley, Stanford, San Jose, and other places.

This photo is not from a Cook Book, but is an original photo Paul took of his plate before sitting down to enjoy a special meal. It is special because it was the first fish Paul had ever caught in U.S.A. waters, when he went fishing with me and Ng Man Ho Eric [ F5 1991 ] last Sunday. In case you can't make out from the image what the fish is, it was a medium size "Shek Baan" (a.k.a. Garoupa in HK, but called Rock Cod here). It's not for free, however, as abiding by the law Paul had bought a $6 one-day-use-only California fishing license before boarding Eric's boat. The morning was beautiful, water was calm, and the ride not as bumpy as it used to be on a rough day. Altogether we got 6 Shek Baans (which is in fact far from even approaching our record). The next day Paul sent us this picture, which depicts what he instantly did to his catch on getting back to the UCSF Guest House.  [ MORE PHOTOS ON FAMILY ALBUM PAGE 47 ]

Paul mentioned that his classmate Yeung Kwok Ching will soon be immigrating to San Francisco area.

Raymond Tin [ F4 1989 ] having graduated from San Francisco State, is now working in San Francisco.

EARLIEST BATCH OF CCSC ALUMNI

Thanks to Lau Kam Chuen [ 1976 ] who sent me almost 10 Megabytes of zip files. Some were photos of his classmates at the school's 30th Anniversary Dinner last year. This class entered CCSC when the school first opened in 1969. Thus they are probably the most senior among all the alumni. It is impressive to see that after all these years many of them are still so attached to the school and showed up to celebrate the occasion.

There are also twenty very valuable black-and-white vintage shots taken during 1969-1975 when he studied at CCSC, and he has been keeping them for nearly 30 years. I deeply appreciate Lau Kam Chuen's wonderful contribution to the Family Album. Not only did he scan and send the photos, he even took up the tedious and time-consuming task of inscribing Chinese names and subtitles on to the photos !!! Very thoughtful of you indeed, Kam Chuen. Thank you. The names did help my memory. Otherwise, you'll find me scratching my head, mumbling to myself, "Hey, I'm sure I know this face.... But god, what's his name?" (Ha..Ha....) After all, it's been a quarter of a century since they graduated. I am certainly very glad to know their whereabouts.

The school building 30 years ago, and now. Not very different from the exterior.
But note the higher fence in the basketball court.

Lau Kam Chuen writes:
I appreciate most of the teachers who gave their sincere heart and devotion in early years of my education at CCSC. After graduation I keep on contact with teachers and I think this is a very good way to support and to recognize of their work done to their students.

He is currently working in Hong Kong and his job involves the design, supply and installation of lighting and video equipment for the stage, theaters and TV stations. His business covers almost all HK & China TV stations and theaters.
