CONGRATS TO GRADUATES

This time of the year is for congrats to new graduates, whether from university, high school, or middle schools. My heartiest congratulations to all graduating students overseas as well as at CCSC back home.

Special congratulations go to our Bay Area ccsc'er Tin Shun Kam Raymond [ F4 1989 ] who has completed his degree majoring in History at San Francisco State University. He graciously invites all CCSC schoolmates he has met in San Francisco to attend his Commencement ceremony on May 27, 2000 at 12:30 PM at the San Francisco State University at Cox Stadium. He would like to take a picture with you for his memory. If you have time please go to the ceremony.

Thanks to Raymond for his graduation photos, a full version of which is on Page 36 of Family Album.

VISITING FROM SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

I had the pleasure meeting Chung Hau Tim [ F5 1975 ] over here in San Francisco. I had last met him and Ivy in 1997 when I visited Sydney. This time Tim is here to attend some Medical Conferences in San Francisco and San Diego.

Tim is no first-time visitor to San Francisco, and he knows the City. When I asked him where he wanted to go first, his answer came immediately, "Fisherman's Wharf -- I want to taste the fresh boiled Dungeness Crab." We did buy a whole crab and ate at a little park near the Maritime Museum and Cable Car terminal. It was indeed meaty and delicous.

As Tim and I went through different tourist attractions, we took a lot of pictures. Amazingly he still uses his old faithful Nikon FM camera, the same camera he had when at CCSC, plus a paraphrenalia of lenses and gadgets in his shoulder bag. And, just like 20 years ago, he is still serious about taking pictures. He went all the way down to the ground in order to get a low-angle shot of a bird perching on a rock in front of the Asian Art Museum in Golden Gate Park.

While he was lying there, waiting for the best moment to release the shutter, I was carried away in memories of the old days at CCSC. I remember Tim's class well, the very first class (F4 Chemistry) I taught when I joined CCSC in 1973. Outside the classroom there was a general intense interest in photography. I remember Li Kwok Hay (now in Vancouver), Lau Tai Chuen, Ho Yiu Ming, amongst others, who went out with me into the chilly windy evenings just to shoot night scenes.

There were also many dedicated sportsmen and sportswomen in the class too, such as Lam Wing Kwong, Yeung Pak Kuen, Chung Yim Ha, Cheng Mi Yu, Chan Chor Wan, Chan Hang Lan (who sadly passed away few years later), Suen Kwai Yu, Yip Chun Yee, Lee Yim Wan, Chan Chun Chung etc etc. I can still remember a lot of other faces but cannot recall their names at this very moment of writing,

Tim enquired about my Nikon FTN and F2, but I told him I now only use a fully automatic Olympus. Actually all the pictures in this update are taken with the Olympus. Not bad, huh???   :-)

Back in Sydney, Tim is a busy body, having opened 4 specialist consultant offices in different parts of Sydney. He travels a lot too, attending conferences, and had been back to Hong Kong to lecture on gastroenterology to the Medical School of University of Hong Kong. He lives in the suburbs of Sydney with his wife Cheng Mi Yu Ivy [ F7 1977 ] and two children.

From HONG KONG

Another CCSC alumnus in the medical profession, Lee Sing Fun Paul [ F7 1985 ], is due to come in September for attachment to University of California, San Francisco (interventional radiology). He is currently Senior Medical Officer in Radiotherapy at Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong. Although at this time we don't have details as yet, he probably will be staying in San Francisco for two months in September and October. Classmates and friends who want to meet him please get in touch with me.

Paul is sharing with us his joy in attaining the new status of being "Daddy" and has sent us some pictures of him and his new born son. Please check them out in Family Album Page 34.
