Cheung Chuk Shan College alumni overseas link UPDATES

Update # 22. March 29, 2000

SAN FRANCISCO GET-TOGETHER

The San Franciscan alumni met again at Chinese New Year. Chan Yau Kit Tony [ F2 1987 ], Hung Ho Chak Steven [ F7 1999 ], Tin Shun Kam Raymond [ F4 1989 ], Tang Po Wan Ariel [ F4 1990 ], Cheung Ngai Peter [ F5 1991 ] came to the Chinese-style dinner on February 26. We were happy, in particular, to have Hau Yim Ping Fiona [ F7 1993 ] as our guest from Hong Kong.

THE FIRST TORONTO GATHERING

While disseminating emails for the San Francisco get-together, I got the chance to talk to Kan Wun Ming Keith [ F5 1984 ] in Toronto, and an idea struck us: Since there are quite a lot of CCSC people in the Toronto area, why don't they also organize their reunions over there?

The idea was followed up and some initial contacts were made. Keith wrote back to me today:

Just to let you know that we did have a Toronto gathering.

It was on March 1, 2000 and those who showed up include Ho Wai Man Raymond [ F4 1983 ] , Chik Yu Van Raymond [ F5 1983 ], Wong Shiu Shing Al [ F5 1984 ] , Kenny Ho [ F5 1984 ] and myself (Kan Wun Ming Keith [ F5 1984 ] ). Too bad Kuo Yue Ming Alex [ F6 1990 ] (who was among the earliest to give a positive response to the idea) and Lee Tin Lok Brian [ F5 1984 ] couldn't make it.

Brian told me that he has Chiu Suet Man Kathy's [ F5 1984 ] contact and we may all visit her next time.

Will let you know if we have any more updates.

Regards,
Keith

Isn't that just great? Now that the first step is taken, I hope the group in Toronto will get larger with time. Great job, Keith -- and keep it up !!!

Alumni in Toronto who find this update please try to get in touch with them. It's in this way the alumni community grows. Please send your contact email address to Keith Kan and get connected to the group.

ALUMNI VISITING SAN FRANCISCO

I am pleased to have met two Cheung Chuk Shan past students lately. Hau Yim Ping Fiona [ F7 1993 ] is from Hong Kong. She works for Yahoo's Hong Kong branch, developing e-commerce, and had come for a week-long meeting at Yahoo Headquarters at Santa Clara. She was so occupied in her work and only managed to spare one day coming out to San Francisco and going around major tourist areas with her colleagues from Taiwan and HK: Terry, Gordon and Jack. She took part in our CCSC New Year dinner. [ More pictures of Fiona's visit in Family Album Page 31 ]

[ ADDENDUM 4/5/2000 ]   In her subsequent e-mail Fiona wrote:   "I've browsed your web pages and they are very nice! So you've followed the Golden Rule of running a successful Web site: update often and always keep it fresh :-)   I'll let Gordon and Terry know about this as well! Ching Sir, thanks so much for showing us around for the whole day. We now all have good memories about San Francisco! And that Chinese restaurant "Lee Yu Mun". I had dinner again with Ariel Tang Po Wen and Tony Chan the Tuesday following our gathering - it's great! Rainbow Lau Mei Ying [ F5 1991 ] visited the U.S. two weeks ago and Ariel Tang was the tour guide. They phoned me up during the trip! I'm really glad to hear from them as it's been a while since I last chatted with Rainbow."
Peter Au Yuk HangFrom Vancouver, Au Yuk Hang Peter [ F5 1978 ] came to Oakland on business. It has been two decades since I last met him. Peter went back to CCSC on the 30th Anniversary Open Day. He said, as soon as he was in the school building it suddenly felt like flashing back to the good old school days again. He was amazed that some teachers could still remember his name instantly, although he had graduated more than 20 years ago ! Mr Leung, the Principal, showed great hospitality and invited him and a few old boys into his office for a brief chat. The original nice pictures sent by Peter had been artistically treated and are now posted on Page 32 of Family Album. Thank you very much, Peter. Hope you don't mind my putting a cropped version in here, just to save transmission time. ;-)

CCSC NEWS

At last the addition of 66 new desktops, the notebooks, and associated peripherals arrived at the school premises, and the Local Area Network was installed. Now both the new and existing computers are serving teachers and students, even after school hours -- for work and play. An Information Technology clerk is on duty outside class hours to administer the network and provide assistance to students. Connection is made via a 128K leased line and is going to be upgraded to a 1.5M. We appreciate the instant update from Mr C K Siu, who took pictures with his digital camera and sent us a batch of nice photos with full annotations. Thanks a lot, Schick. The photos are now in the Family Album. Please check them out.

Just heard that Pang Yiu Fai Vincent [ F5 1990 ] who has been studying and working in New York, is returning to Hong Kong. We surely will miss him over here in the States. We wish him good luck.
