30th Anniversary Celebrations

Though at this time the large scale celebrating activities for the Thirtieth Anniversary are over, the festive spirit still lingers on campus. Perhaps let me take a little time for a brief round-up to share with you guys tid-bits that I have gathered from my communications with Hong Kong. . . .

Quite a lot of people came to the Open Day, and were interested in the exhibits in the School Hall, the special rooms, the laboratories, etc. Among other themes, the exhibits of "CCSC towards the Year 2000", "Paper Flower Making" (Art), "Cloning" (Biology) attracted special attention from the visitors.

The 30th Anniversary Magazine was published in March, with a circulation approaching two thousand copies. The magazine is nicely prepared and in full color, and carries a wealth of information and articles. I heard that the school still has a small stock of extra copies. Alumni who haven't ordered the Magazine should get one before they run out. There are also some Souvenirs on sale too. Please order through the CCSC official website.

The series of celebration activities culminated in a climax in the 30th Anniversary Dinner on April 17 1999. A congregation of almost 400 past students and teachers took part in the dinner held at the City Hall Chinese Restaurant. Of the 38 tables that night, 32 were filled by past students who have come from classes over a time span of more than 20 years, dating back as early as 1974! In his welcome speech Mr Leung, the Principal, also updated the gathering on the School's recent achievements. A slide show, prepared by Mr Yuen and humorously narrated by Mr Siu, followed. Mr Tong (brother of alumnus Tong Ling Shek) and Mr Chow together hosted a Magic Show, in which Mr T S Fung played a very funny role -- quite a different person from what he is remembered in class! The dinner was a great success, and it was also one of the few opportunities for so many alumni and teachers to come together again, to meet and talk. The number of past students that turned up far exceeded what the organizers had first anticipated!

As soon as I had finished with this Update, by coincidence Mr Wat also wrote us an account of the 30th Anniversary Dinner. His vivid and detailed description is in the Guest Book. Please CLICK to view. Thank you so much, Mr Wat.
